On Oct 9th 2024, Hurricane Milton arrived on the gulf coast of Florida bringing terrifying winds and flooding. Many were still recovering from Hurricane Helene -

Nurses in Southwest Florida are living, working and breathing in the aftermath of tragedy.

They are navigating the cumulative care taking trauma against the backdrop of 2 natural disasters. They are doing the best they can to care for themselves while simultaneously caring for others.

All the while trudging through the intense emotions of loss, grief and exhaustion.

Southwest Florida Hurricane Helene + Milton

Right now, many are in survival mode. There are reputable disaster relief originations on the forefront of this critical work. In the coming weeks and months, the needs will shift as nurses seek mental heath support.

We will be visiting nursing units in SWFL Nov 21 - 24 to provide onsite support, deliver gifts or gratitude to storm weary nurses and bring awareness to available mental health resources.

Although hospitals have approved, this is not a hospital partnership in regard to funding. This is commUNITY funded and volunteer led mental healthcare.

A message from Tara, the founding, Executive Director,

"As a SWFL resident, Punta Gorda and the surrounding areas are my home.  Before my days Debriefing the Front Lines, I have worked at both Lee Health and Florida Gulf Coast University. As a result of my roots here, over 32% of the nurses receiving support via formal Debriefing and our Daily Communication Initiative live and work in Southwest Florida.

This Recovery Fund will enable nurses to request assistance in 4 categories

 1) Supplies

2) Financial support
